» Biography / Interview:
What is your name and how old are you?
My name is Todd Rolfe (AKA Ralphy) and I am 21 years old.
Where do you live?
I live in Brisbane, Australia
How long have you been riding BMX for?
I have been riding BMX for about 8 years.
Why do you ride BMX?
BMX is the only thing that keeps me sane. The best thing is that you
could never master the sport as there is always something new you could try
or new places you could go to.
What is your favourite type of riding?
I like to ride trails and flowy skateparks. I don’t mind riding
natural street either.
Who are your favourite riders?
Corey Bohan (go Aussies), Ryan Biz Jordan, Kye Forte, Ronny Chalk,
Taj Mihelich.
Who do you ride with?
I ride with the local guys such as Mike Brown, Scotty, Jerome, Wade,
Benny and the rest of the grommets. Otherwise I ride with Mykel Perkins, Brad
Doyle and the rest of the fellas from Morayfield as much as I can. I try to
get out to Redcliffe and ride with the guys there as much as I can as well.
When I am riding street I usually hang with Reece and his mates who like street.
What is your best trick?
That would be hard to say. I guess turndown flips, 3 whips, indian
whips, double trucks. I think.
What is your favourite trick?
To be honest I like to flow around a skatepark or through a killer
set of trails. Just being smooth and styling stuff. Divebomb 360’s are
probably my favourite trick.
What are your goals in the future?
I would like to travel with my riding mainly to the US and hopefully
be able to ride with guys like Shaun Butler and Corey Walters from KHE. I would
like to ride in events like the Vans Triple Crown other big comps. My goals
are mainly to just have fun with BMX and hopefully to get a little money on
the side by riding comps, demos and from sponsors.
Favourite riding spot?
Cement wise it would be Caloundra skatepark. For trails it would be
Shady Acres which got ploughed so now it would have to be BP trails at Ferny
Grove.
What do you do when you are not riding?
I will either just hang out with mates or hang out with my girlfriend.
My mates have the maturity of 10 year olds so you can imagine some of the silly
things we do but we have heaps of fun. I like going to the 24 hour newsagent
and reading the BMX magazines.
Any tips to people starting out riding?
I think before a rider starts going big with tricks they should first
learn to become smooth and have control over the bike. I think that once you
have the coordination tricks are a lot easier to learn.
The thanks part
I have a lot of people who I would like to thank. I would like to thank
my sponsors, Thomas and Wolfgang from KHE for giving me a ride, Darren and Rodney
from Supersports for the helping me out with everything, Jim and Laythe from
Cycle Evolution bike store for helping me out as well. I would also like to
thank Damo from Front On clothing for the support.
From the media side of things I would like to thank Joel Cowden for the great
photos he has taken, Daniel Murcott for helping out with the filming. Also I
would like to thank Noel Downey for the posters. These guys have some serious
skills with media equipment.
Now the mates. I would like to thank Ryan Lemke and the other guys from school,
Daniel Murcott and the drift kings, the skatepark locals Mike, Scotty, Jerome,
Wade, Benny and co. I would also like to thank all of the riders I have made
friends with, these guys have made BMX truly a good sport to be apart of.
MOST IMPORTANTLY. I would like to thank my girlfriend Athena for being there
and helping me with everything.
Any Last Words?
Be yourself and don’t try to be someone else. Ride for life,
and ride for fun!
